2025 is a year of transformation, and I’ve set myself a goal that I’m excited to share with you: to walk 8,000 steps every single day – and with a few extra steps here and there, reach a total of 3 million steps by the end of the year! It might sound like a lot, but this goal is about so much more than numbers. It’s about taking care of my health, getting outside, and rediscovering the joy of walking.
Why I Chose to Walk 3 Million Steps in 2025
I’ve always loved working out. Strength training has been a big part of my life for many years, and I still train 4 days a week. Since August 2024, yoga has also become a daily habit, giving me both physical and mental strength.
However, over the last couple of years, I’ve noticed a shift. Menopause has started to creep in, and the weight has been creeping on – even though I live a healthy lifestyle. My diet is rich in quality nutrients, with a good balance of protein, carbs, and healthy fats. I’ve also been following a 16:8 intermittent fasting routine since March 2020, which works well for me. Yet I’ve been missing something: being more active in my everyday life.
In addition, I found out in November 2024 that my cholesterol level is 9.2 – a strong reminder that I need to take steps to improve my health. Setting a goal of 8,000 steps per day is a simple yet effective way to build more activity into my life, potentially improving my cholesterol and overall health.
What Does Walking 3 Million Steps Look Like Over a Year?

- February (28 days): 224,000 steps
- March (31 days): 248,000 steps

- September (30 days): 240,000 steps
- October (31 days): 248,000 steps

- December (31 days): 248,000 steps
- Summary:
- Average steps per month: ~244,000 steps
- Total for the year 2025: 2,920,000 steps!
With a few extra steps here and there, I’ll hit my goal of 3 million steps for the year. And the best part? These steps are about so much more than numbers – they’re about fresh air, moments in nature, and everyday joy.
Why 3 Million Steps Will Bring Me Health and Happiness
Some might think 8,000 steps a day doesn’t sound like much, but for me, it’s a realistic and meaningful goal. Measured with my phone, it might even translate to 10,000+ steps on a fitness tracker or smartwatch. But more important than the numbers is what these steps give me:
- Fresh air: I want to feel the sun on my skin, hear birdsong, and soak in the sounds and scents of nature.
- Happiness: Walking gives me a sense of calm and fulfillment that I’ve been missing.
- An active life: These steps are a key part of my journey to live a long, strong life.
Health Benefits of Walking 3 Million Steps: Improving My Well-Being
This goal is not just about numbers. It’s about improving my health – physically and mentally:
- Better health: I want to lower my cholesterol, strengthen my heart, and stay fit as I navigate menopause.
- Natural surroundings: Walking outside, whether in nature, the city, or around my neighborhood, helps me feel grounded and connected to the world.
- The joy of walking: I want to rediscover the simple joy of walking – an activity that gives so much in return.
2025 – The Year of Change
I’ve shared many of my 2025 goals before, and this is one of the most important: to be more active. Even though I love strength training and yoga, it’s important to bring more everyday activity into my life. Walking is a simple yet incredibly rewarding way to do that.
